Vestry and Lay Leaders

Our Vestry manages the physical assets of the parish, prepares budget and oversees the finances, as well as working with the Rector to develop programs, outreach, activities and fundraising events. These are our current vestry members, in addition to our Rector, Fr. Charles Nalls.

Ed Darby, Senior Warden, is a long-time member of St. Alban’s, is a licensed Professional Engineer with degrees from VMI and U.Va. in civil engineering. He currently works for the Virginia DOT supervising the shop inspection activities where steel beams and prestressed concrete beams are made for use in the state’s bridges. He also has worked as a bridge designer and a supervisor of bridge designers both within VDOT and in consultant engineering companies. As an Anglican he was baptized as an infant in South Carolina and confirmed at St. Mark’s in Hampton around 1976. As a young man, he sang in his parish choir before becoming an acolyte and serving for about five years until he began college. In 1990 Ed heard about the ACC while living in Columbia, SC, and found they had a local parish on the other side of town. He immediately started attending church again regularly, and joined St. Alban’s in 1992. Ed has been a regular on the vestry ever since, including service at times as Senior Warden and Junior Warden. He also regularly serves as a lay reader and member of the choir. Ed is an active Scoutmaster and adult Scout leader. Ed is married to Gwendolyn, and they have one son, Thomas, baptized at the Ellwood parish of St. Alban’s in June 1998 and confirmed at the Hermitage parish on February 5th, 2012.
